Here's a photo of my MacBook Pro with the GMail login page open. Next to that is my Lowepro Fastpack 250.

There's also a nice backyard at the hostel, with a terrific view of the surrounding lowlands (the hostel is, after all, situated on a high point near the foot of Mount Ulriken).

Two reference links for this hostel:

I'm now a proud owner of a MacBook Pro. The iMac's gone to my parents.

Last update (Jul 05, 2009): I'm now the proud owner of two extremely fine machines: The iMac 24" 2.93 GHz (early 2009 model), and a MacBook Pro 15" 2.44 GHz (early 2008 model).

Ever since my good buddy Wong Soo Ming (who created a very professional-looking site with the default templates and software that came with his MacBook – an almost 100% drag-and-drop-and-click affair) demonstrated the power and ease with which he could manage the entire process from storing photos to processing and managing them, I've wished and wished (obsessed is probably a better term) for a MacBook. Who knows, I'll probably be able to scrape enough dough to purchase a unit in future.

This post is just a start – I will expand on it as time goes on and I collect more relevant information which will be appended here.

For the most part, Windows is fine if you're managing and postprocessing a few photos and posting them to the web. The real headache comes when an interested party asks you to provide a larger version of the photo you had posted on the web, and you have forgotten what curves, levels, layers and other retouching were done for that photo.

With the MacBook and Aperture, this nightmare never happens, because all your edits are "remembered", and you can choose to output the final, processed photo in whatever size your heart desires.

For now, have a good read about how a Windows expert has chosen the Mac way of life (and Part 2 is here and reader comments here) – there're tons more stories and blog posts of Windows users switching to Macs …

Another self-proclaimed apologist expresses disappointment with Windows Vista here.

Here's how to do a proper price comparison for Mac Pro vs PCs.
