Here’s Digital Camera Info’s conclusion on their comparison of the Nikon Coolpix P90 and Sony Cyber-shot HX1:

The Nikon has a slight edge if you look at the specs: it shoots higher resolution images (12 megapixels against the 9 of the Sony), has a longer lens (24X against the 20x of the Sony) and is cheaper. But the Sony has superior performance in pretty much every category of our tests: it has better color, resolution and much better stabilization. The only area where the Nikon was superior was noise; although the Sony has the wider ISO range, the Nikon had lower noise in images at the ISO levels it achieved. The Sony was also a vastly superior performer at shooting video. While the Nikon could only shoot grainy standard definition video, the Sony could shoot very attractive high definition video.

The Nikon Coolpix P90 Is One Of InfoSyncWorld’s Four Best High Performance Compact Digital Cameras (2009)

… it’s got a massive 24x optical zoom and a bulkier, fuller body with right hand grip and popup flash. We are now officially in the land of Super Zooms, and the Nikon Coolpix P90 fell in line with many of its peers in terms of design and interface. That means a standard four-way directional pad, a few controls buttons here and there, and an electronic viewfinder. However, the 3-inch fold-out LCD was one of our favorite features on the Nikon Coolpix P90 because it allowed us to shoot at peculiar angles.

Image quality was surprisingly good, considering the fact that the Nikon Coolpix P90 features a standard 12-megapixel 1/2.33-inch CCD.

If you’re looking for the ultimate Super Zoom compact, the Nikon Coolpix P90 could be the ticket.

Canon Powershot SX10 IS vs Nikon Coolpix P90: Image Quality – Ben Herrmann:

… I took the gamble and picked up the SX-10 IS and boy was I ever surprised – heck, I was taken aback at how gorgeous the IQ is from this new Canon super zoom. It blows the P90 out of the water in both clarity and color tonality, and I don’t say that lightly! What was really pleasantly surprising to me was the clarity you can achieve at full zoom (whereas many superzoom digicams lose that clarity at the long end).

The P90 smears the clarity by comparison and it’s a night and day difference, and look gang, I have countless Nikon cameras – both DSLR and digicams. But I have to call a spade a space…..this baby rocks!

    Nikon P90 Image Quality? – 44Magpie:

I’ve had my P90 for a while now and couldn’t be happier with it. As long as you realize it’s not a DSLR it will serve your purpose. I bought this for the huge zoom factor and it is wonderful. ALL point&shoot photos need a little tweaking in Photoshop or whatever and this camera is no different. I get great results with the camera set to standard settings and run my preset macro in Photoshop and I am done. Photos are beautiful.
