Sony H20 Reviews

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H20 Digital Camera Review at CNET Reviews – Joshua Goldman:

The photo quality from the H20 is very good, though it's really only reliable at ISO sensitivities below 400. At that ISO noise reduction kills a lot of fine detail and sharpness, making edges fuzzy. However, the results are certainly fine for prints below 8×10 inches. ISO 800 is suitable for 4×6-inch prints and smaller, as long as you don't mind the blurry details. I can't recommend using the 1,600 or 3,200 settings for anything other than capturing the moment. On the upside, there's very little color shift at these higher ISOs.

More importantly, the lens is sharper than most megazoom cameras–even out to the corners. There's also little in the way of purple fringing even in extreme contrast conditions that would normally cause it. However, there was some lens flare in direct sunlight, but it's to be expected. Colors, while not entirely accurate, were nonetheless pleasing and natural.

Joshua gave the Sony H20 an overall rating score of 4 out of 5 stars (EXCELLENT).

Sony DSC-H20 – Favorable First Impressions – Todd3608 made some excellent posts about the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H20 digital bridge camera on the Sony Talk Forum of Digital Photography Review.

Following are some extract from his thread:

To make a long story short, I ended up with the H20 (I owned the H3 at one point also). After taking over 400 pictures over the weekend, I am pretty impressed. I even took some low light pics in caves and museums at ISO 1600 that were very usable and not too noisy. I used the manual settings – yes it has manual settings! The thing that really helped out when I had to use flash was the manual flash compensation. The default flash settings were too strong for my tastes.

The video was the biggest surprise in that the optical zoom works and you do not lose the focus when using it. Yes – it's slow but it does work. Plus I like the MPEG4 format quite a bit with the small file sizes.

One other thing…The build quality is very good. It's made in Japan, which is becoming rare these days.
